Romantically Apocalyptic: The Horrible Life of Snippy (Original Short/Late Contest Entry),Film,,This is my late (very late) entry to the online contest "The Horrible Life of Snippy" the original deadline was due Feb. 1st, however I wasn't able to finish my entry due to time constrains. Here's the link to the contest: http://alexiuss.deviantart.com/art/EPIC-CONTEST-2-THE-HORRIBLE-LIFE-OF-SNIPPY-277540906 The short is based on a beautifully drawn web-comic called Romantically Apocalyptic, by a fellow named Vitaly S. Alexius I recommend you to have a look at his work, it's amazing!: http://romanticallyapocalyptic.com/ The whole thing was filmed in 1 day, nevertheless, the amazing amount of rotoscoping and hand-tracking the very shaky footage took me weeks of hard work, most of it done during the gaps between customer's work. The CG character was originally filmed on a green screen, performed by my brother (Stephan Rusinov), who is a talented amateur actor, unfortunately the green screen was too small and most of the footage ended up completely useless so I implemented the plan "B" which was to use a computer-generated three-dimensional model. The overall appearance of the character was based on an old unused mask design I had laying around, since it was already sculpted in clay I used the proportions to model the 3D character in Blender, which I had to learn to fully use for this project. As I mentioned previously the time constrains made impossible to fully animate the 3D character and I ended up only animating the main parts of the limbs (hands, elbows, shoulders, torso, neck and head). Since the animation looked too stiff I decided to add the cloth to dissimulate the lack of micro-movements (which contribute a great deal to "humanize" a performance). Unfortunately the poor capabilities of Blender's cloth engine made impossible to fully animate the cloth, which required a lot of cloth pinning and making the cloth stiffer, which resulted in a simpler animation. Despite all this, the program is great and I plan to use it further. You can view the original clay sculpture for the CGI character, codenamed "Phobos" right here: http://redcrowdesign.net/evilplanet/portfolio/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/phobos01.jpg Or the concept art here: http://redcrowdesign.net/evilplanet/portfolio/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/phobos011.jpg The programs used for this short were: -Blender 3D -Voodoo camera tracker (which pretty much saved the project from oblivion) -Adobe After Effects CS3. -Adobe Photoshop CS3. -Adobe Premiere CS4 -Fruity Loops (For the music) -Goldwave. Thanks for watching (and reading). If you have any questions please ask them in the comment section down below and I will add them to this part so everybody can read them!
