Alien Resurrection Creating Ripley Clones 1-6 BTS,Film,,For nearly every film, once designs are approved by production the chosen designs then move on to be sculpted in clay. Here is a special look back at the sculpting phase of ALIEN RESURRECTION and the Ripley clone aborations ADI created for the film.
Alien Resurrection Revealing The Clones,Film,,We realized after showing fans the work put into the Ripley clones from ALIEN RESURRECTION that the detail and color in the finished pieces were a bit obscured once they made it to set (the clones were in large specimen tanks filled with fluid, after all). As effective as the reveal of the "failed" clones may be in the final film, we thought you might enjoy a closer look at each one, inter-cut with a set walk-through the day shooting began for the sequence (this was the same day Sigourney's special comments were caught on tape and later seen here in our 2012 video, 'Sigourney Weaver Behind The Scenes With Alec Gillis And Tom Woodruff Jr., Alien Resurrection'). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8yGrSY47Wg We hope you'll enjoy and... Alien Resurrection Newborn Design Concepts,Film,,ALIEN RESURRECTION's "newborn" is perhaps the most controversial creature ADI has ever embarked upon. Love it, hate--appreciate it, loathe it--we felt it was time to travel back to 1996 to show you the design process, from early concept illustrations to painted maquettes. It's never easy bringing a newborn into the world, especially when it has such a legacy to follow.
Alien 4 Chestbursters & Victim Death Tests,Film,,By the time ALIEN RESURRECTION came to us in 1996, chestburster scenes and alien "tongue" kills had been presented about every way possible--in bright light, in shadow, and almost complete darkness. RESURRECTION's script presented some unique possibilities that we were excited to pull off on screen (and have some fun testing in the process). Lights, camera, splatter!
Alien 3 Sculpting BTS,Film,,London, 1990. A special look back at the sculpting work on ALIEN 3 featuring such effects veterans as Mark Coulier, Dave Anderson, Gino Acevedo, Steve Norrington, Chris Cunningham, Gary Pollard, Jeremy Hunt, and of course Tom and Alec. (You can get another glimpse of them hard at work in studioADI video, 'Alien 3 Armwrestle Match', The Pikeys of Pinewood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIXPloz8xog) And if you'd like to tweet us, we're @alec_gillis and @Tom_WoodruffJr!
AVP Alien Queen On Set,Film,,The work doesn't end when the Queen is built. Performance on set is everything and having a director who understands how to build from shot to shot is key. Here you can see the first tentative movements on set that were refined quickly to become an important part of the action. And after a long day of getting stabbed by Sanaa Lathan, she was even able to send producer John Davis a slime-flavored birthday greeting!
AVP Building The Mini Queen,Film,,On AVP, we had the chance to revisit The Queen, whom we hadn't worked with since ALIENS. We built her to match that original miniature with some slight modifications and had a blast creating a scale egg sac to rupture on set - all live, in front of the camera!
