Many tales of heroism were told about this short war, Jaegers on skis using guerilla tactics and the brave counter-attacks of Finnish soldiers led by skillful Swedish officers inspiring even zealous civilians to join the fight. The utter incompetence of the Swedish king (who got overthrown in 1809) left the undersupplied Finnish regiments in a desperate fight against the Russian army, their resistance motivated by the fear of the events of "The Great Hatred" hundred years ago happening again. Stories of the Finnish War often told in schools likely inspired many Finns to perform even greater deeds in WW2
