Netherlands: Historical ship reaches Europe after sailing from "end of the world",News & Politics,,Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe The historical ship Bark Europa docked in the Dutch port of Scheveningen on Tuesday after sailing for more than 16,000 kilometres from Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina. "We were just lucky that we were right on time on the same day that they closed down that we were able to disembark all our passengers," said the ship's captain Erick Kesteloo, speaking about the COVID lockdown in Argentina. Due to the restrictions, the crew was locked in at the port of Ushuaia which describes itself as 'the end of world, the beginning of everything.' With no way of knowing when the lockdown is likely to be lifted, the captain decided to sail back to the Netherlands without any stopovers. "It was basically a very good trip all over. I like more sailing in cold waters and a bit more variable conditions, rougher sailing maybe, and we had a little bit of that. We had calms, which I don't like so much, but that enabled us to do a lot of maintenance, like painting on board, on deck, outside and inside," said Kesteloo. The 82-day trip is considered to be the first such journey since the introduction of the steam engine in the 19th century.
