HIGH CLASS CRAFT Zweefboten were originally built with military application in mind, hence their rugged, heavily armoured frame. As improvements in technology permitted smaller, cheaper craft, Zweefboten designed for personnel transportation instead of combat became a more viable focus. The cost of a Zweefboot was still great enough to exclude the average imperial citizen from owning one, however it become more common to see such a craft carrying high-ranking officers, government officials, policemen, or corporate personnel. MODERN FUELS The first airships were fueled by coal, which fired steam engines to turn propellers. Around the turn of the century, hydrogen became a popular replacement for use in heavy-duty military ships. Hydrogen would see further use in other craft as gas turbine technology was improved upon, and as jet engines were used for propulsion. Eventually, methane became a contender to hydrogen, thanks to its higher energy density, as well as its low cost of production. Zweefboot For the longest time, the fastest means of travel was by steam-driven train. With the advent of gas-lifted airships in the 14th century, traveling through the air appeared to promise the ultimate pathway of rapid transportation. While hydrogen-filled airships remain a common sight throughout the Endrish Empire, heavier-than-air craft known as Zweefboten have been a symbol of the aeronautical state-of-the-art since the turn of the century. These machines float in mid-air by means of gravitic buoyancy, which is facilitated by electrically charging plates of a special superconducting alloy. Due to their expensive cost of manufacture, especially with respect to the fabrication of the anti-gravity lifting material, Zweefboten are typically reserved for military applications. However, as Zweefboot technology became more refined, improved manufacturing costs meant that smaller, more accessible Zweefboten could be made for non-military
