The Beetles of Braigh (Brag) are a nickname given to a sect of elite soldiers serving under the banner of Braigh Hennai; the city-state that is their namesake. The title was given by outsiders as a reference to their sets of unique armor, known for their unusual design and brilliant sheen. The vibrant hues of the metal seem to change from one moment to the next as light moves across it - a product of the mysterious forging process that is the signature of Hennai blacksmiths. This process creates alloys of exceptional strength - and most importantly, an uncanny ability to absorb magic greater than many other metals. A set of this priceless armor is incredibly rare, created bespoke for each soldier and only given to the most dedicated of the Hennai Guard.

I had figured out most of the shape language by this point and this was my first feeble attempt at coloring, not great. iridescence is a tricky thing to paint so i had to actually research the difference between regular pigment and structural colour
ITERATIONS PART 3 HOY BOWDY i reworked the pose and then came back to trying to figure out how to best achieve the color variation i wanted. I asked myself "why work harder when i can work lazier?" and used Gradient Maps instead. Start with a basic black and white value placement the possibilities are endless! anyway this gave me a solid foundation that i used, basically a variation on the purple and blue but with a mixing in of stronger green and red tones as well. These initial values were also pretty dark so i bumped up the brightness significantly
