The Empire is currently ruled by the Empress from the Court of Nine Moons located in Seandar, where she reigns upon the famed Crystal Throne. The culture is very similar to that of Japan, with the silk screens and robes. They drink kaf a beverage similar to espresso. Their accent is similar to Texas. The Domani, similar to the Middle East, have an Indian accent. Their women wear thin, clinging gowns that are barely opaque, and the men wear beauty marks in designs on their faces. The capital city is Bandar Eban, and in Arad Doman one can find the Terhana Library. Their woman are known for being trained at a young age in the art of manipulative seduction of men. They eat meals with lacquered sticks called "Sursa", similar to chopsticks. The Altarans have a culture similar to that of Rome or Venice, a mediterranean feel. Altarans often seek duels for honor and women are known to use the marriage knives for slights (actual or imagined) as easily if not easier than men duel. The women wear their dresses pinned up on the side with bright colored petticoats that show through the bottoms. L ± The Cairhienen are constantly scheming for political influence and are heavily entrenched in Daes Dae’mar, The Game of Houses, where entire stories can be concocted from a single glance. Cairhienen speak in a precise, clipped accent, enunciating every word. Their culture is similar to that of 18th Century France, with some of Japan. The nobles are very reserved in clothing and action, and the common Foregaters are the opposite. The Aiel are a warrior-like, hardened people, their lives intricately wrapped up in ji'e'toh - roughly translated as “Honor and Duty”. Their accent sounds somewhat Slavic and they have a sense of humor that is often considered odd by “Wetlanders” - those who live outside the Waste. They left the Waste once in memory, to assassinate King Laman of Cairhien for the cutting ofAvendesora, the Tree of Life. They are ruled by Wise Ones and Clan Chiefs. The Saldeans are one of several Borderland countries in the world. Their society is similar to “a number of Middle Eastern cultures and several cultures in countries surrounding the Black Sea ” with their focus on calvalry. The temper of their women is legendary, a cross between the middle east and Italy/Sicily. Their accent sounds Egyptian, and they are ruled by Queen Tenobia. One of the Great Captains, Bashere, is their General. The Taraboners are middle eastern in culture, but often european in appearance. The women are known for having their hair in multitudes of small braids about their heads, and the men are known for the small, conical-shaped hats, similar to a fez. Both men and women in Tarabon wear thin, filmy veils that cover the bottoms of their faces. Andoi The Andorans are highly reminiscient of Arthurian England. They are ruled by a Queen rather than a king, and many names and places have both English and Welsh origins. Andor has always had close ties with Tar Valon and the queen has almost always had an Aes Sedai advisor. The Daughter-heir, regardless of her ability with the One Power, often spends time training in Tar Valon. Their accents are distinctly British. The Illianers have a mediterranean feel to their culture, similar to that of Greece. Their accents are some of the more notable in the novels, often replacing pronouns in awhvard patterns, sounding similar to that of the Dutch. Its capital is a large port city with many canals in lieu of streets. The Council of the Nine rule in tandem with the King of Illian, often in competition for power with him. The Sea Folk, or "Atha'an Miere" are a private people who live most of their lives on the water. Often dark of skin with multitudes of earrings and piercings, considered “exotic", they do not like to be away from the sea for long. Their boats are captained by a team of women (the Wavemistress and Windfinder) who are held in great respect in their culture. They are known for their skill and formality with bargaining or making a "contract”. The Sheinarians are similar to traditional Japan. They are a strong warrior society bound heavily by honor. Their warriors have a distinctive topknot and their towns are more fortresses against the Blight than regular cities. They have large group baths and a rigid code of honor extending to both women and Aes Sedai. The Amadicians are similar to Commonwealth English and Puritan era culture. Amadicia is predominated by its influence of the Whitecloaks, or Children of the Light, as they call themselves. Both Aes Sedai and channeling is outlawed in Amadicia, and denouncement and execution on suspicion of being a Darkfriend is common. The Two Rivers folk are known for being a stubborn, hard-working people. Their daily life is similar to older English country folk, and they are known world-wide for their tobacco and the use of their oversized bows that only they can use reliably. Women wear their hair unbound until they come of age, at which point they wear it in a signle long braid down their backs. Their accents are similar to that of Ireland and England. The Tariens have a strict deliniation between nobles and commoners, often seen as different types of people entirely. They distrust channeling and it has been outlawed for many years. Their accents are similar to that of the Spanish. The main fortress, the Stone of Tear, is one that has never fallen, and the city and country are ruled by a council of High Lords and Ladies. Very little is known about the Sharans. Their appearance and culture seems similar to that of sub-Saharan Africa. Very few people aside from the Sea Folk have ever had contact with Shara. Shara is ruled by a monarchy, the Sh'boan and Sh'botay, with the true power seeming to be held by the Ayyad. Channelers have tattooed faces and are held separate from the remainder of the country, breeding strictly regimented.
