Merfolk My encounter with the Coastal Merfolk was truly fascinating. Their specialized gills can convert water to air, which they use to adjust their bouyancy (among other biological functions). This air can be exhaled into the mouth of a land-dweller to keep them from drowning in the ocean depths. 5y< My guides generously took turns passing air to me in such a fashion. I must admit, the prospect of being utterly dependent upon their kisses for survival was strangely exhilirating. Ironically, in writing this entry I find myself feeling rather breathless as I recall the experience.
