Add mane, tail, and touches of realism The chin has a bump of flesh Align the ears with a circle. 3 circles can command any pose. Eyes are on the side of the head. A huge vein runs under the jaw. Rough muscle j groups to keep in mind. I loof shape. There are many different body types and breeds, but the 3 circle concept still stands ONE OF TI IE Ti 11NGS PI 1 AT MAKES A 1 lORSE SUCH A GOOD RIDING ANIMAL IS THEIR SPINES DO NOT FLEX MUCH. (COMPARE A MORE GALLOPING TO A DOG OR A CAT IN FLIGHT.) fOR THIS REASON, HORSE'S LEGS NEVER MOVE MORE THAN 90 DEGREES FROM EACH OTHER. EVER. 1. Walk is a 4-beat gait. At least one foot is always on the grounf, often 2 2. I lorses move DIAGONALLY. If the right fore is coming forward, the left hind is moving a little bit behind it. 3. The hooves flip out more on the hind legs, but the front legs can stretch further apart. 3. Trotting sucks for a riders who don't know how to post Which is why I don't ride trotting horses. 1. A trot is ENTIRELY diagonal. The left fore moves with the right hind It is a two beat gait. 2. There is a long moment of suspension in trotting, which is why posting is neccessay. The carriage of the head lifts a little. 3. 1 lorses lead with a foreleg. Horses are "right-hoofed" or "left-hoofed" just like people. Lead changes make the horse switch which leg he's leading with. 2. This is the moment of greatest speed, when the horse pushes off. When Quarter Horses do this from a standing start, hold on, because nothing on earth is faster than a Quarter for the first quarter mile. 1. A lope is a three beat gait. "Tot-a-lot, tot-a-lot." It has a moment of suspension, too. 1. A gallop is merely a faster lope. It's 3 beats, too. The head drops more when the horse is given the rein. In Peruvian Pasos, the trot is called the "llano"; the lope is called the "sobreandando." For Paso Finos, the trot is called "paso corto"; the lope is called "paso largo." 1. A GAITED horse breaks the diagonal rule. They are LATERAL movers, like cats and camels. The right set of legs moves, then the left. This is called PACING when it is uniform and has a two beat gait. 3. A gaited breed always has one foot on the ground at all times, regardless of speed. It makes for a very smooth ride. Spanish breeds gait the 4 beat neaturally(the foals do it by themselves); breeds like the Saddlebred and Tennesee Walker have the 2-beat pace and are trained to have it broken into a four beat. 2. A broken pace, however, means that the lateral movement is not as uniform, and it becomes a four beat gait. The right fore strikes, then a second later, the right hind. Gaited horses also have high action in the forelegs, which can break the 90 degree rule. The front legs arc pushing off, but the horse can't catch himself. This is "cross-firing", where the horse's hind leg hits it's front. It's entirely undesirable, because the horse will trip. It has to be trained out. These are W'RONG poses. You will NEVER see a horse take these poses in real life. You will, however, see them illustrated by folks who don't knowT their horse anatomy as well as they ought When the front legs are extended, the hind legs arc not collected like this.
