Мермитиды - семейство круглых червей, паразитирующих на пауках, насекомых, скорпионах, ракообразных, пиявках и даже на других червях.Если хозяин съест яйца паразита или жертву, зараженную такими яйцами, то он сам заражается - паразит вылупляется внутри и начинает есть хозяина очень избирательно - так, чтобы тот оставался живым как можно дольше.
Ближе к концу паразит заставляет хозяина испытывать сильную жажду, чтобы тот нашел водоём, так как после смерти хозяина паразит выходит наружу и откладывает яйца в воду.
